Our rich tradition in Crosslake Minnesota began as a vision over almost a century ago. It was 1934 in Minnesota’s lake country, a time when the distant howling of the wolves would frequent the evening twilight, when towering stands of pines stood untouched as they had for centuries, and when the rugged-natural beauty of the Northwoods, the crystalline lakes and the bountiful fishing attracted only the most adventuresome.
Lynn Boyd had the calling of the north. It compelled him to not only live here but to enhance its beauty and share it with those who were to follow. And follow they did. Initially, Lynn and Ceil Boyd provided lodging to those wanting to fish the abundant waters of Whitefish Lake. But as visitors began to discover that Boyd Lodge was more than a fishing lodge, their numbers began to increase, as did the demand for lodging facilities. Families began to come, seeking not only exceptional fishing but also a place to relax and enjoy a family vacation. Year after year they return to enjoy the beauty of Whitefish Lake, and the friendly, hospitable family atmosphere that has long been the Boyd tradition.
In 1967 Lynn and Ceil’s daughter Nancy and husband Roger Schwieters took over the operation of the resort. They made many additions and improvements to the resort over the years. Here they raised their family of three children and two foster children. In 1983 the townhouse project (loft cabins) was started. These cabins have been a wonderful family vacation destination ever since.
Then in 2010, Lynn’s grandson, Mike, and his wife Ruth moved to Crosslake to become the third generation operators of Boyd Lodge. Since their return, 7 new fractional ownership cottages and a new check-in building which houses their banquet and office facilities have been added. Even though there have been many new additions, the one thing that has stayed constant throughout, is Boyd Lodge’s commitment to their guests to be the best vacation destination possible and where Moments become Memories!
