Our Brainerd resort is located on Whitefish Lake. Whitefish lake offers something fun for everyone from great fishing to boating. Whitefish Lake is 13 miles long and yields walleye, northern, bass, and panfish. This Minnesota fishing resort is a great place to spend your fishing vacation. Plan a fishing trip with a bunch of friends or spend a great week with your children fishing the many hot spots on Whitefish Lake.
Whitefish Lake is 7,370 acres in size and is part of the 14,000-acre whitefish reservoir chain in northern Crow Wing County. The lake is heavily developed and is a very popular recreational lake with heavy boat traffic on many summer days. The majority of the lake has a sand bottom and water clarity is good.
Lake Survey
In the 2000 lake survey, the northern pike was found in high numbers with a catch rate of 10.6/gillnet. Sizes ranged from 13.1 to 36.1 inches, with 20.9% at 24.0 inches or greater. The growth rate was average. Walleye numbers of 4.17/gillnet are average for this lake type and within the range of past surveys that have ranged from 1.1/gillnet (1978) to 7.3/gillnet (1973). Sizes this year ranged from 9.6 to 28.7 inches, with an average size of 16.5 inches.
Walleyes age five and less comprised 85% of the catch. The largemouth bass was present in high numbers and sizes ranged from 4.4 to 17.4 inches. Bluegills were found in very high numbers, but the size was small, with 98.3% of the catch less than 7.0 inches. Black crappie numbers were good with sizes ranging from 3.9 to 9.8 inches and growth rate was average. The yellow perch population at 22.7/gillnet is considered high for this lake type and it supplies a very good prey base for many species.
